Call for Entries: Guest Curator for BSA Space
Opened in early 2012, BSA Space features more than 5,000 square feet of gallery space for creative explorations of the potential of design to inspire, create community and transform the world we inhabit. BSA Space is home to the Boston Society of Architects (BSA) and the Boston Foundation for Architecture (BFA), which oversee the gallery exhibitions.
The BSA/BFA’s Exhibition Committee will select a guest curator who will be responsible for conceiving, executing, installing and overseeing all aspects of one of the BSA’s major exhibits. The guest curator will also be responsible for creating three public programs per exhibit, featuring related content. Guest curators will be given a budget of $30,000–$70,000, depending on the size, scale and preparation, which will include materials, installation, programming and curator fees.
This call is open to individuals, teams or firms in related design fields, including but not limited to landscape architecture, industrial design, engineering, interior design, photography, urban planning and graphic design. Exhibits can be visual, interactive, hands-on, three-dimensional, models, digital, video or a combination of formats. Themes can be historic retrospectives, contemporary, theoretical or future-oriented. Applicants for this round of entries must have demonstrated experience curating a museum-quality exhibition.
Proposals should include the following, in PDF format:
1. A one-page letter of interest.
2. A one-page PDF outlining your exhibit proposal; vision statement; and any relevant renderings, sketches or photographs. (Visuals must be included on this one-page PDF.) The exhibit proposal must include a working title, description, target audience, interpretive format, proposed schedule and a list of potential programs that could accompany the exhibit.
3. Your resume.
4. A portfolio of your recent work.
5. A proposed budget.
Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Please email all proposal pieces to exhibits@architects.org or send (in digital format) to Mary Fichtner, Program and Exhibits Manager, 290 Congress Street Suite 200, Boston MA 02210.
