This show will bring together the results of Add-on’13, a 2013 competition organized by BSA Cape and Islands Network, to generate ideas for affordable and multigenerational dwelling units on the Outer Cape. The exhibition will examine inventive ways to build affordable housing. While showing that inexpensive housing is worthy of good design, all winning projects will demonstrate the importance of considering environmental factors and changing demographics in rural design.
Join us for an opening reception on Wednesday, October 9, at 5:30. Free and open to the public. To attend, RSVP to email@example.com with “CE 10/7″ in the subject line. This event will include a screening of Built on Narrow Land, a film that examines a moment in Cape Cod’s history when a group of bohemian designers were inspired to build houses that married principles of the Bauhaus to the centuries-old local architecture of seaside New England. In 1959, with the establishment of the Cape Cod National Seashore, the fate of these Wellfleet houses suddenly hung in the balance. Filmmaker and architect Malachi Connolly has created a strikingly beautiful work accompanied by an original score by Josephine Wiggs of the Breeders.
Conditions/Environments features the work of CxMxD, Michael Alexander & David Shanks, Loadingdock5, WCA, Eric Rothfeder and Matt Coffey, Shaun Morris & Jason Michael Fay along with others, coordinated by Mary-Ann Agresti and Peter McMahon and curated by Tulay Atak.
